Together Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a dare for long-term couples who appreciate the horror genre: Sit down with your loved one and stream Together. The independent film success of 2025 has now made its streaming debut on the Hulu service. On the surface, it could look like conventional body horror, but within Together lies a deep meditation about the ways we decide to love each other.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together is the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have stayed together for ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, the two stars infuse a unique chemistry to their roles, skillfully embodying both the strengths and weaknesses of a enduring union.

The narrative begins when Millie and Tim transition from the urban environment to the country for professional reasons. A familiar story element, of course, but that’s primarily where the cliches conclude. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their new home, a violent storm occurs, and the protagonists tumble into an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity takes hold of the couple. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past simple connection.

The entire film is a methodically building fright fest, weaving in bits of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes amidst something grotesque). The director orchestrates these parts seamlessly and delivers them in a slowly mounting sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is solely the two lead actors, and they masterfully render manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is waning due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to focus on anything other than his floundering music career inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and distant from his social circle. He is terrified of the notion of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is intensified by the fact he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for mobility.

Shanks’ smartest move is that he refrains from painting one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie face the kind of problems that come with most partnerships over a long period. Fundamentally, they have affection for one another. They still laugh together, offer support, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of codependency and giving oneself over to another person, the symbolism avoids being clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about codependent relationships. It has been said that single viewers have understood the narrative as a strong argument for staying single. Conversely, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could function as a telling indicator of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you identify in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your partner and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an test you can experience right now.

Together is currently playing on Hulu's platform at present.
