Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with former trainer Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court since spring of that year.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued four early-game chances in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
