Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the northern region in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Questers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
